At Gnargo Bike Co, your safety is our top priority. Our front-load cargo bikes are designed for durability and joy, but like any electric vehicle, they require thoughtful handling and care, especially when it comes to charging and battery use.
Whether you are a DIY builder, a first-time rider, or a veteran pilot, please read and follow these guidelines carefully.
If you have a safe outdoor spot, we recommend charging outside or in an open, well-ventilated, non-enclosed area, away from doors and building openings.

FAQs
These are general guidelines for Gnargo production bikes. If your bike has a custom battery, modified wiring, or a DIY system, water resistance and charging safety depend on how it was built.
Can I ride my Gnargo bike in the rain?
Yes. Normal rain and wet roads are OK for our production systems. After riding, wipe down the bike and battery area and allow the contacts to dry. Many e-bike systems are designed so water can drain off and electrical contacts can dry.
- Avoid deep standing water where components could be submerged.
- Avoid spraying electrical components with high-pressure water.
- After heavy rain, wipe and dry the battery area, connectors, and charging port before charging.
Can I charge my battery after riding in the rain?
Yes, but only after everything is fully dry. Remove the battery using key, wipe off moisture, and let the charging port and connectors dry completely before plugging in.
Should I put a plastic shopping bag over the battery when riding in the rain?
We do not recommend using a plastic shopping bag as a standard solution.
- A tight or sealed bag can trap moisture against connectors and can hold water where you do not want it.
- It can also shift, tear, or interfere with the battery mount or wiring on rough rides.
A better approach is a purpose-built battery rain cover or a fitted splash cover that sheds water without sealing in moisture. After the ride, remove any cover and allow the area to dry before charging.
My charger is making a sound. Is that normal?
Often, yes. Many e-bike chargers have an internal cooling fan and may hum softly during charging. A charger may also make a brief click when charging starts or stops.
Stop using the charger and contact us if you notice any of the following:
- Loud grinding or rattling
- Burning smell, smoke, or discoloration
- Charger housing becomes extremely hot
- Charging light behavior changes suddenly or repeatedly faults
My charger gets warm. Is that okay?
Yes. Mild to moderate warmth is normal during charging. Place the charger on a hard surface with airflow around it, and keep it away from fabric, paper, and other combustibles.
Is it OK to leave my battery charging overnight?
We recommend not charging overnight or unattended. If something goes wrong, you want to be awake and nearby to respond quickly. Safety groups also advise against overnight charging and recommend avoiding charging near exits.
How should I store my battery?
- Store at room temperature and out of direct sunlight.
- Avoid leaving batteries in very hot or freezing environments for long periods.
- If you rode in wet conditions, let connectors and the mount fully dry before storage.
